3 Malaysian churches attacked in 'Allah' dispute

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Three Malaysian churches were attacked with firebombs, causing extensive damage to one, as Muslims pledged Friday to prevent Christians from using the word "Allah," escalating religious tensions in the multiracial country.

Many Malay Muslims, who make up 60 percent of the population, are incensed by a recent High Court decision to overturn a ban on Roman Catholics using "Allah" as a translation for God in the Malay-language edition of their main newspaper, the Herald.

The government says Allah, an Arabic word that predates Islam, is exclusive to the faith and by extension to Malays. It refuses to make an exception, even though the Herald's Malay edition is read only by Christian indigenous tribes in the remote states of Sabah and Sarawak.

At Friday prayers at two main mosques in downtown Kuala Lumpur, young worshippers carried banners and gave fiery speeches, vowing to defend Islam.

"We will not allow the word Allah to be inscribed in your churches," one speaker shouted into a loudspeaker at the Kampung Bahru mosque. About 50 other people carried posters reading "Heresy arises from words wrongly used" and "Allah is only for us."

"Islam is above all. Every citizen must respect that," said Ahmad Johari, who attended prayers at the National Mosque. "I hope the court will understand the feeling of the majority Muslims of Malaysia. We can fight to the death over this issue."

The demonstrations were held inside the mosque compounds to follow a police order against protests on the streets. Participants dispersed peacefully afterward.

Malaysia is often held up as a model for other Islamic countries because of its economic development, progressive society and generally peaceful coexistence between the Malay majority and the ethnic Chinese and Indian minorities who are mostly Christians, Buddhists and Hindus.

The Allah controversy, however, has the potential to shatter that carefully nurtured harmony, drive a deep racial wedge and scare away sorely needed foreign investment as the country struggles to emerge from the global financial crisis.

Prime Minister Najib Razak condemned the attacks on the churches by unidentified assailants, who struck before dawn in different suburbs of Kuala Lumpur. He said the government would "take whatever steps it can to prevent such acts."

Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said the country's leaders were very concerned about the situation. "We don't want this to spread out into something else ... I am not only assuring the minorities, I am assuring all Malaysians _ anybody who is in Malaysia _ that they are safe," he told reporters.

In the first attack, the ground-level office of the three-story Metro Tabernacle Church was destroyed in a blaze set off by a firebomb thrown by attackers on motorcycles soon after midnight, police said. The worship areas on the upper two floors were undamaged and there were no injuries.

Two other churches were attacked hours later, with one sustaining minor damage while the other was not damaged.

The tribespeople of Sabah and Sarawak, who speak only Malay, have always referred to God as "Allah," an Arabic word used not only by Muslims but also by Christians in Muslim-majority countries such as Egypt, Syria and Indonesia.

Many Malaysian Muslims say its use by others would mislead people, tempting them to convert to Christianity.

Since the verdict, hateful comments and threats against Christians have been posted widely on the Internet, but this was the first time the controversy turned destructive.

Kuala Lumpur police Chief Mohamad Sabtu Osman told The Associated Press that a witness saw four people on two motorcycles breaking the glass front of the Metro Tabernacle church and throwing an incendiary object inside before fleeing.

He said police found a wrench, an empty gasoline can and two scorched motorcycle helmets at the scene.

The backlash against the court verdict has reinforced complaints by minorities that they face institutional discrimination. They say it is almost impossible to get permission to build new churches and temples. Some Hindu temples have been demolished in the past. Court verdicts in religious disputes usually favor Muslims.

I'm sorry, I failed.....

After today meeting with Ms. Vivienne, Ms. Dreana and the seniors, now I can clearly see that what is this event all about. For me it is all just about getting enough of sponsorship and fulfill the seniors' plan and to attracting crowd to the event. For DHT2 students basically need to find out the way to make back the RM500 for the canopy rental and other expenses for decorating our booth and stuff that we plan to sell.

Today it wasn't a very good day for me to being at the meeting room, I am being too aggressive and emotional while I am just wanted to discuss the process that we have been thru for this event. It wasn't a good time.

If you ask me, will this event be successful, I will say yes there are high percentage that this event is going to be happening, but until the end, for me I felt like we already failed in the organizing part.

Other than that, I am putting too much of stupid afford for this event and neglected my others subjects, besides that, I also failed to become a course rep. didn't managing the printing job well and also didn't get to lead our course well, I'm sorry. Simply I was too tempted, that I though we are actually "merging" to do this event.

After finish 1 and a half packed of cigarette,I have finally giving up on this event, and I have whole heaps of thinking just trying to focus on my booth, because everything has been passing up, all of the money, there wont be any turning back. Plus there are nothing much could be done at this kind of time. Besides we only can just bitch about it. =)

But thru out the all, what makes me disappointed and heart broken today, is when my most respectful lecturer is telling me, all of the shit doesn't matter, since the outcome is looking optimistic. If it is a real business out there I wouldn't mind, cause at the outside world money is everything. For us in college, yes profit is our result but what have we learn thru out this event ? You guys be the judge.

I'm sorry for all of you DHT2 students, that I have bring shame to you guys in the meeting room, to the lecturer I'm sorry for being disrespectful. For myself, I'm sorry for being overconfidence and over though. and of cause for the seniors please left our course blog cbox alone.

I would like to starts a "Sharing Section" every time that after our lecturer...
This section for us to share just about anything with our fellow course mates, you could share just about anything, you could share your jokes, knowledge about what you have been through, happiness, a propose to a girl/boy that you admire, express you feeling, talent, singing, dancing, your disagreement, voice out your uncertainty or even rehearsing your coming presentation, basically anything that you want to share...

The reason for doing this, it could help on your presentation skills, to build your public speaking skills, really helpful on overcoming your public speaking anxieties... By doing this you could actually learn to deal with people, to understand, able to take criticism from others, a big step to build your confidence and boost your self-esteem sky high...

This "Sharing Section" have not much of rules apply, no language control, you could use any languages you want, it is just for you to express yourself and to share with your other course mates. Time limits, there are basically no time limits until the next class coming in, it could be short it could long it is all up to how you want it. ATTENTION: No insulting on anyone families, friends or their loves one....

I really hope that you guys will like this idea... there is nothing to be shy, there is nothing need to be hide.. is only a time for you to shine, to care to share... You guys are potential leader someday, so why not starting it today? Believe me you people are amazing, capable of doing anything if you want. Being shy is not getting you anywhere, being quite nobody will know. So now lets show everyone that you can do it, and help others to do it as well...

Welcome back to college again for all of you, hope you guys are having a great time during the holidays. Well with you all realize this will be out last semester that we gonna spend together. After that we are off for our internship. Till then, we are all good to go doing whatever we wanna do, continue studying or starting our career, for all of that I wish we all could do well.

Here's the first thing that I would like to update to you all is about the following coming Monday tutorial classes. On Monday tutorial classes before 1600 has been cancel due to the lecturer meeting, but for classes after 1600 will be on as usual...

second, Practical classes which is our Pastry subject will be starts on the third week, which mean another two weeks from now...

Third, I believe all of you have already got your students bil payment slip, the dateline to submit it, is on 19th of october 2009, please pay the amount on the payment slip stated.

Fourth, about our notes photocopy, This time our supplier are kindly enough to improve their service by separating our notes into groups in one bag, therefore I urge all dear class representative please only take the notes by your class only... For the book printing, so far strategic management does require text book in order catch up with the subject, but we could have it in photocopy, as in a student notes form, if you guys are interested please kindly inform your class representative, and class representative please kinda inform Rachel how many of it that your class need it. Also please update Rachel about the number of student which has remain in your group...

Fifth, I have to apologize for today 0800 lecturer class for baking and pastry subject, Chef Jafar had actually inform me that the class will starts on next week, I am sorry that I didn't realize that JY is actually our dearly Chef Jafar...

I beg for appreciation

I know I'm a bit emotional on last friday, about an anonymous "Hero" comment on the blogspot. I beg forgiveness from you folks for taking my pist at the lecturer hall, I'm really being patient for awhile for taking the all the insults that has been post on the chat box ever since this blogspot has been establish... but some of you are really getting harsher and harsher .... I'm the only on who responsible for the course not my family not my girlfriend and not my friends either... Some of you are really pushing it...Any issue please come forward to me talk to me reasonably and having a mature conversation.

There are some understanding that I need to state here, lets go step by step about it....

1.) They photocopy supplier that I chose to deliver our notes is associate with our college, they are the only supplier that is been authorize to enter the college to deliver our notes. Try to imagine without the delivery to our door step of the lecturer hall, I have to personally drive out to collect all the notes 300 over students notes will it be possible? And do my transportation fee are considerable to claim from you guys? What if I dont have a car? And have you consider the timing for our general lecturer ? For this semester there is only two days for the general lecturer classes which is Friday and Saturday... I hope you don't expect them to send it to your tutorial class door by door, ask yourself would you do that kinda service if you are the supplier? Plus the supplier does not only managing our course notes only, they are managing the majority of the courses of our college. They are not our butler.

2.) The payment for the photocopy, I have manage to get the cheapest out of the supplier. I did not took a single cent from you guys, what you pay for it is all to the supplier. Some might thought why some of the printing supplier are giving a lower rates for the printing, it is because our supplier are so good, their service has almost monopolize in the entire college. The supplier out there could only lower their rates to attract more of their customers. If I would like to cover all my allowance for all my transport and telephone bill I will ask from you guys, I won't cheat from the photocopy money.

3.) For those who are not happy with my service I will kindly suggest you to go on your own, just kindly let your class rep know that you would like to get your own notes and you can stop paying for the class fees. I didn't ever force anyone of you that you must take up my service.

4.) I don't work for you, I'm just a voluntary messenger between you folks and the office or the lecturer, what they told me is what you will get. Please do not ask me question that only god could answer. And please do not ask any of the lecturer number from me, I am not authorize to do so is best to ask them by your own.

5.) Since the 1st year 1st semester I have said so, "Please do not text me smses" anything call me! I couldn't afford to pay more for my telephone bill after using it to call up the photocopy supplier and the lecturer to get the information for you guys. Please call me only. Time line 1000-2000 only.

6.)Class rep please do not grab the notes by your own during the distribution time, now we have a new assistant course rep will kindly like to help you to manage it sequently. Please allow her to do her job and get the satisfy amount for you class.

Besides that all I need is a lil' bit of co-operation with you guys, we are having a bad service of the notes printing is due to the most confirmation of the amount of students that needed the printing service, that is why I require all the class rep quickly gave me the confirmation on the first week. This is to avoid the over printing cost for you guys to pay.

I know I might be deficiency of doing a my job as a course rep sometimes, all I could say is I'm a student as well just like all of you guys, I wish to do well in my studies and get graduate from the course, I do not wish to put all my effort just to manage the course only and neglected my studies, My dad actually ask me to quit this position, just incase I fail and wasted their money for my education, and it is quite a confuse dilemma of responsibility and selfishness. PLEASE, I really hope that we could at least co-operate to makes things happen, it is very hard to clap by one hand( if you wish to know how to clap by one hand ask me to demonstrate during the lecturer hall) trust me it is hard and painful.

If however, you guys think you guys need a new course rep, a better person to do the job, I am greatful give my position out for the sake of living a better life for myself.

In college life everything is on our own, if you require any information please kindly visit the ssh office or the lecturer yourself, I do not consider that is part of my job. There are heaps of things that you guys can do it on your own instead of just depending someone to help. Get what you want by yourself.

One last thing, I really mean you guys no harm, do not think of I am in a gangster or something, I didn't came a cross a single fight before, I do not need you to scare me or something I wont harm you for anything. But there is a limit as well, just make sure you don't cross the line.

Oh yes... Yes I do smoke, there are some other smoker in our course as well, but please do respect the smoker out they, eventhough it is a bad thing to do, as long as they didn't blow their smoke in your face they are just like you. A normal person having a bad habit. Please cut off those perception that you have to hate a smoker.

This blog is mainly use for giving out helpful information and accepting mature comment, and once again it is not a place for people like Mr. Hero to cry like a baby over here. If you want you got all the time you need to bitch about unsatisfactory feeling in the lecturer hall complete with a microphone to bitch it all out to all of your fellow course mate. And let them know who is the "Hero" that could stand out. Is a Free country to have a free speech, there are not ISA people gonna catch you in the college... Just don't, please don't be such a coward crying like a baby here in this blog! Thank you.

I have realize that our course has a massive number of students could not advance to year2 ... and the new name list could only given by the SSH office on This coming Monday (1st of June 2009), due to that I would like to hold all photocopy of notes that given by the lecturer until then ... to avoid over print and paid... I hope that you guys can help me to inform your lecturer about it... I'm sorry for the inconvenient.... Hope you guys could understand. Thank you..

1.) Due to the previous style of payment we found it hard to track and collect, therefore Rachel and I already discuss is better that we do it in "Pre-paid" style, which everyone of you will pay amount of RM10 to your class rep and they will hold the money and pay it to Rachel on time, This payment will only imply for notes printing. If you could look closer to the schedule, there are two type of Lecturer class. There is one which is located in class rooms, Example: V102. That is what I call it a class Lecturer, and is for the individual group only. On the other one which is located in Lecturer hall Example: DK ABD that is a course Lecturer, and that is for the whole entire course. Therefore for this week, what we all need to attend is the Course Lecturer in the Lecturer hall, and thru all of the Group schedule we don't have any Course lecturer class until Thursday.

Well, Say no more, our class is starting on this Thursday 9th OCT 2008, DK ABE 1600-1800, KHHM1204 Hotel Management and Operation, will be our first class for this semester. If my information is not wrong.

Well is 4am in the morning, I don't wanna sleep cause I have plan this, to study my economy for tomorrow exam... Yea right study. Solving the mystery of "the Big Bang"

Finally, for all this years of research in CERN, the scientist finally get to use the most complex and enormous machine on earth LHC( Large Hardon collider) the have built. the 17-mile-long underground circular path of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the world's most powerful particle accelerator, located at the CERN laboratory near Geneva, Switzerland. it is a machine that could smash two atoms at the speed of light, and reenact the scene of "The big Bang" which believe is the starts of our universe!

LHC has been launch two days ago, and their mission is a success. The digital camera in the machine does show there are stars like appearance when those atoms smash together, its similar to our universe. But the machine has not been use full blast, according to the news the machine will reach full capacity by this year end. I can't wait!

Well, there are some negative side of this project as well, the scientist assume they might create a tiny black hole which could suck our mother earth in. Due to a news report on Yahoo, a young girl committed suicide, cause she thought the end of the world is here. For the first beam, we are still around right ? haha, yes I'm still here writing this blog entry. But we are still not sure about the full blast of the machine. Keep your finger cross.

I have told this to one of my poker buddy on Facebook thru the chat box, and someone say:" You fuckin' anti-C_ris" well I am not. All I am is just simply adore the beauty of our human mind which could lead us till this stage of research. No offense to any party out there.

I can't wait to see what the machine could bring in this year end, it could be an interesting way to welcome another new year =)

Many of you still asking me about the Exam slip which I already told on Monday...

-Well, when can we get the exam slip? As the office has told me, they might be ready on either on this Thursday or Friday( doesn't sounds very convincing, I know... )

If I got the Exam slip already I will be distribute it on this Saturday during Economy Lecturer class thru all of the class representative... So be there.

-The time table. Please do check out the TAR college intranet for it, is already been ready.

-The venue, I realize that there are quite some venue that we're not familiar, I recommend you guys go take a walk around and get familiar with the venue before your exam day. Therefore you wont be late for the exam.

-Past year question, there will be some past year question in our school library, so go check it out and there are a photocopy machine over there, just incase you need a copy of it.

-Oh just incase you think your assignment marks will help you lighten your finals marks, You're wrong. First you have to pass your assignment, and you have to pass your finals as well, which mean you have to get 50% passing marks for assignment and 50% passing marks for your finals. So is not like assignment marks plus finals marks= 50% then you're pass, NO! It doesn't work that way. So now you have pass your assignment, do good in your exam there.

Very well, thats all I can say now, I wish you guys all the best and don't stress out, get enough of sleep in order to help you do better in the exam.

As I have read the book of "Sun Tzu and Management", Sun Tzu is the man who need no introduction, a native of Qi, one of the book of his is simply related to our modern management today "The Art of War"(Sun Tzu Bing Fa). There are many strategies and philosophy in it, but due to our current situation, the issue that we are having now is our communication, communication between me and you.

Therefore this is one of the strategies for Sun Tzu leading a women form troops, just to demonstrate his drilling troops technique, for convincing Ho-Lu the king of Wu that he is eligible to be appoint to be a commander. Till then this is a strategic that he has come out after Ho-Lu has granted him permission to proceed and had the palace beauties come out, obtaining 180 women.
